History

Incorporated in 1920, East Brookfield is the youngest town in the Commonwealth.  The land was derived from an English plantation settled in the 1600s.  The Quagaug Indians inhabited the area when the settlers arrived.  Part of East Brookfield, between Sturbridge and East Brookfield, is known as Podunk (an old Indian name).  Podunk is the birthplace of baseball great Connie Mack.

Today town residents take pride in their school system, churches, town services, senior citizen activities and the volunteers who make municipal holiday observances possible and secure the success of the town's charitable events.  The Fourth of July celebration is a family affair, concluding with a massive fireworks display that attracts thousands of spectators.
